BASF launches groundbreaking concrete admixture range MasterEase®

  • New technology reduces viscosity in concrete by up to 30 percent
  • Low viscosity and concrete mix stability facilitate mixing, pumping, placing and finishing of high performance concrete

Sydney, Australia – November 10, 2015 – BASF has launched a new range of admixtures under the Master Builders Solutions brand that brings significant improvement to the rheological properties of concrete.

The MasterEase® admixture range is based on a novel and patent protected polymer technology, which helps to reduce plastic viscosity in concrete by up to 30 percent.

This reduction in viscosity levels substantially reduces the pumping pressure required, making placing and finishing concrete easier, faster and more economical. “Innovation is what drives our business. With our new products we want to meet our customers’ needs, master construction challenges and contribute to their success. This is the driver behind MasterEase,” said Angus Peruzzo, Head of Construction, Australia and New Zealand, BASF.

“Ease stands for ease of mixing, pumping, placing, leveling and finishing of concrete. After pioneering concrete technology with market leading products like MasterGlenium® and Master X-Seed®, we are proud to present another groundbreaking innovation from Master Builders Solutions to the concrete industry,” said John Brooks, Marketing Manager, Admixture Systems, BASF Australia and New Zealand.

Flexible and adaptable with improved workability retention

Both concrete producers and users benefit in many ways from the new technology: MasterEase products are flexible and can be adapted to challenging situations such as temperature variations. “The high level of rheology and long workability are added value for the contractors in terms of concrete durability,” explained John Brooks. “The concrete is easy to place, trowel and pump. Utilizing this concrete saves time and cost in every single construction project. It improves the utilization of the transportation fleet and equipment and reduces the wear of mixers, pumps and pipelines.”

In addition, the possibility to reduce mixing water even further without impacting the concrete rheology, opens new possibilities for improvement in concrete mix designs: Less water in concrete mixes means higher performance and better durability.

The new technology is particularly suitable for concrete mixes which are optimized for advanced engineering properties and sustainability. High-strength concrete with low water/cement ratios, as well as mixes with higher levels of secondary cementitious materials, reduce the CO2 footprint and are easier to produce and place. This helps engineers and investors to improve sustainability ratings of their projects.

BASF launches MasterLife 300D in Australia & New Zealand

  • Integral crystalline capillary waterproofing admixture for above- and below-grade concrete applications
  • Reduces penetration of water and other liquids, seals hairline cracks and resists side hydrostatic pressure

Sydney, Australia – July 15, 2016 – BASF has launched a new capillary waterproofing admixture product in Australia and New Zealand, designed for use in above- and below-grade concrete applications.

MasterLife® 300D is an integral, portland cement-based, crystalline material that reacts in concrete to form non-soluble crystalline hydration products in the capillary pores of the concrete. By effectively reducing the concrete’s permeability, MasterLife 300D reduces both capillary absorption and penetration of water and other liquids.

Test results show significant benefits in structural waterproofing and concrete durability, when compared to untreated concrete mixes. “We have seen reductions in capillary absorption of 43 per cent and water penetration of 40 per cent, while achieving a seven per cent increase in compressive strength,” said Matt Ross, Head of Construction, BASF Australia and New Zealand.

In addition, this concrete admixture seals hairline cracks, resists positive and negative side hydrostatic pressure, and protects against sewage and industrial wastes.

“MasterLife 300D has been sold internationally for a decade and has been used on over 400 major infrastructure projects. We are excited to now be able to offer this technology to customers in Australia and New Zealand.”

BASF launches two new MasterSeal products in Australia

MasterSeal CR 435 – a high-performance, chemical resistant joint sealant for use in harsh environments

MasterSeal NP 430 – a general purpose sealant with Modified Silicone (MS) technology

Sydney, Australia – August 31, 2016 – BASF has launched two new sealant products in Australia from its MasterSeal® range, which includes waterproofing products, deck membranes and
sealants, formulated to stop water leakages and moisture ingression in new and existing structures.

“Wherever two surfaces are joined together, the integrity of a structure is only as good as the sealants used. Formulated with high-performance elastomers, our MasterSeal joint sealants ensure outstanding weatherproofing and protection against the most aggressive conditions,” explains Colin Peterson, Market Manager Construction Systems at BASF Australia and New Zealand.

MasterSeal CR 435 is a two-component, chemically curing, hybrid polyurea sealant, recommended for active, exterior and interior joints placed in harsh environments. The sealant’s high chemical resistance, puncture and abrasion resistance, moisture insensitivity during curing and UV-resistance make it extremely durable and ideal for heavy traffic areas.

MasterSeal NP 430 is a one-component, moisture curing, highly elastic, modified silicone joint sealant. It is recommended for active, exterior and interior joints that demand extreme UV-resistance and long-term colour integrity. Its modified silicone technology ensures high elasticity and movement capability, as well as adherence to a wide range of surfaces, including concrete, metal, timber, cement, brick and plaster.

“These new sealants demonstrate BASF’s ongoing commitment to delivering the best solutions to our customers in the field through the Master Builders Solutions range,” Mr Peterson said.
“We leverage global BASF technologies, as well as our in-depth knowledge of local building needs, to develop innovations that help make our customers more successful.”
