Spirit of Tasmania I & II

The Challenge

When it comes to challenging environments for waterproofing membranes and materials, few would surpass the demands of an ocean-going ship.  The combination of exposure to the elements and constant exposure to a harsh marine environment - coupled with the additional complexities associated with applying materials to a structure that has been specifically design to provide movement and flexibility - presents a significant challenge on a number of levels.

The Solution

Following its success in a number of trials, TT-Line selected a 'customised' CONIROOF 2111 system from BASF Construction Chemicals for the waterproofing project.  This unique multi-stage solution first incorporated an application of MASTERTOP P679 primer, followed by MASTERFLEX 1500 adhesive-backed waterproofing tape which was placed across all of the joints along and between each of the 1.2m x 1.2m roof panels.  The project incorporated the use of over 5,000 lineal metres of MASTERFLEX 1500 tape.  With the tape in place, the next stage involved a spray-application of CONIPUR M 810 waterproofing membrane, followed by a final roller-application of CONIPUR TC 458 top coat.
