Mastertop 230 delivers the strength in floor applications

  • Mastertop 230 shows its strength in waste transfer station applications
  • Extra heavy-duty iron aggregate protection for industrial floor applications
  • Mastertop 230 delivers oustanding impact and wear resistance

For most people, the last thing that they'd want to do with their brand new concrete slab, would be drop tonnes of hard waste onto it - espcially if the next thing that they had to do was scrape it up using the blade of a dozer or heavy tractor.

While that may be the last thing that most people want to do to their concrete slab floor, when it comes to waste transfer stations, that's exactly what the concrete slab floors have to endure.

Wayne Smith, Managing Director with Queensland-based concrete finishing and coating specialists and BASF recommended Master Applictor Multitech Floors, explained,  "When it comes to 'pit-based' waste transfer facilities, one of the biggest challenges has been to find a concrete flooring solution with the required impact and wear resistance capabilities to not only withstand  the waste being thrown into the pit, but also the wear
and tear caused by the dozer or tractor blade as the waste is moved around the pit towards the collection bins or compactors."

"These facilities can receive tens of thousands of tonnes of waste every year, and the damage that that can cause to an unprotected concrete slab or lightweight coating can be substantial to say the least," he said.

"In fact, without the correct protective floor topping, this type of activity can damage a concrete floor to the point where it needs replacing in only a couple of years," he added.

With that in mind, one of the major challenges facing councils, waste authorities and waste contractors throughout Australia, is finding a way to get concrete floor to withstand this daily punishment, without ending up totally 'trashed'.

MASTERTOP® 230, is a heavy-duty floor topping that can stand up to even the harshes conditions - including being 'trashed' on a daily basis!

"We're extremely pleased with the performance of the new MASTERTOP®  230.........It went down well and without any problems"

Specifically formulated for areas that are subjected to heavy abrasvie traffic, impact and continuous wear,  MASTERTOP® 230 is an iron aggregate topping designed to provide industrial floors with extra heavy-duty protection against abrasion and impact.  It is ideal for a wide range of applications, including: loading docks; aisles; truck and tractor repair areas; mill scale sluiceways; mining workshops with tracked vehicles; and, of course, floors where scraper blades are in constant contact, such as those found in waste transfer facilities.

MASTERTOP® 230 can be applied over correctly prepared existing hardened concrete at a thickness of 13mm - 40mm to provide an appreciably longer service life than either normal high strength concrete or natural aggregate toppings.  Having a lower modulus of elasticity than other toppings of equivalent compressive strength, MASTERTOP® 230 is also less brittle andmore resistant to dynamic loads, resulting in improved impact resistance and total energy absorbing capacity (toughness).  In fact, a MASTERTOP® 230 floor has up to four times more impact resistance than a plain concrete floor.

Not suprisingly, when it comes to choosing a flooring solution for the collection pit as its new Waste Transfer Facility at Molendinar, Gold Coast City Council selected MASTERTOP® 230 .

Encompassing an area of some 740m2, the covered collection pit is the centerpiece of the new waste transfer facility.  The contract for the application of the new pit floor was awarded to Multitech Floors.

Following the surface preparation works, MASTERTOP® 230 was applied at a thickness of 30mm, resulting in a floor that is extremely tough and durable.

"We're extremely pleased with the performance of the new MASTERTOP® 230 floor at the Molendinar Transfer Station and, importantly, so is the client," Wayne Smith said.  "It went down well and without any problems, and the finished result is excellent."
"It's extremely strong and robust, and most importantly, it's having no problems whatsoever standing up to the daily 'trashing' that it gets from the waste and the scraper blades," he concluded.
